What should I do if I spot an error?
Send the details to corrections@canadaedition.org — our dedicated corrections inbox. Please include the article URL, a brief description of what you believe is wrong, and any supporting source if you have one. You can also use the general contact form at /about-us/contact/ if that’s more convenient. Every report we receive is reviewed by our standards desk.
Our standards desk is led by Andrew Leblanc, our Standards Lead. He and his team handle fact-checking, source verification, and all correction requests. The email address corrections@canadaedition.org goes directly to that desk.
How does Canada Edition handle corrections?
Once a report is received, the standards desk evaluates whether a material error exists. A material error is one that changes the factual meaning of a statement or could mislead a reader. If confirmed, we update the article with the correct information and add a clear correction note at the top or bottom of the story, explaining what was wrong, when it was corrected, and who made the fix.
Minor errors — like a typo or a misdated event — are corrected without a note if they don’t affect the article’s accuracy. But any substantive mistake gets a visible update. We aim to acknowledge receipt of your report within one business day and to resolve most corrections within two business days. If the issue is complex or requires additional verification, we’ll let you know the expected timeline.
If you are not satisfied with the response from the standards desk, you can escalate your concern directly to our Editor-in-Chief, Catherine Roy, at catherine.roy@canadaedition.org. She is responsible for all editorial standards and final publication decisions.
How this works in practice
Here is a concrete example. Suppose we published an article stating that a new transit line in Toronto would open on June 1, 2025. A reader notices the actual opening date, confirmed by the city, is June 15, 2025. The reader emails corrections@canadaedition.org with the link and the correct information. The standards desk verifies the date against official city documents, confirms the error, updates the article to read June 15, and adds a correction note saying: “Correction: This article originally stated the opening date as June 1, 2025. It has been corrected to June 15, 2025. We regret the error.” The reader receives a brief email thanking them and noting that the correction is live. The article’s edit history is updated internally.
