About Us

This page explains who we are, what we stand for, and how you can rely on us for clear, trustworthy Canadian news. Whether you are a regular reader or visiting for the first time, you will find everything you need to understand our mission, our team, and how we work — all in one place.

Who we are and what we stand for

Canada Edition (canadaedition.org) is an independent Canadian digital news publisher owned and operated by Northern Beacon Media Inc., an Ontario corporation (Ontario Business Registry number 1003194827). Our registered office is at Unit 12, 95 King Street East, Toronto, ON M5C 1G4, Canada. We deliver clear, practical coverage of Canadian news, politics, business, technology, world affairs and regional stories for English-speaking readers in Canada and internationally. Our editorial mission is straightforward: trustworthy Canadian journalism that helps readers understand complex issues without spin or oversimplification.

Every article you see on our site is drafted by a named writer, reviewed by an editor, and fact-checked before publication. We never publish anonymous content, and we hold ourselves accountable for every word. For more detail on our editorial standards, please see our Editorial Policy and Fact-Checking Policy.

What we cover

We cover the stories that matter to Canadians. Our reporting spans national news, federal and provincial politics, business and the economy, technology and innovation, world affairs with a Canadian lens, and regional stories from communities across the country. We also produce explainers that break down complex topics — from budget bills to climate policy — so you can understand the context and the stakes.

Our team of editors and correspondents is based in Toronto and works with contributors across Canada. We prioritise accuracy, fairness, and depth over speed. If a story is developing, we will tell you what we know and what we are still verifying.

How this works in practice

Here is a concrete example. Suppose we publish an article about a new provincial housing policy. The story is written by a named journalist, reviewed by our Provincial Affairs Editor Jessica Morin, and fact-checked by our Standards Lead Andrew Leblanc before it goes live. If we later learn that a figure in the article was incorrect, we issue a correction — clearly noted at the top of the article — and update the piece. That same process applies to every story, from a city council meeting to a federal budget analysis. You can read more about our approach in our Corrections Policy.

Who is responsible

Our Editor-in-Chief is Catherine Roy (catherine.roy@canadaedition.org, +1 416 555 0221). She is responsible for editorial standards, publication decisions, and corrections. Our Managing Editor is Marc Tremblay (marc.tremblay@canadaedition.org, +1 416 555 0222), who oversees the daily newsroom, headline review, and commissioning. You can meet the full team on our Our Team page.

Every editor and correspondent is named on our site, and their contact information is published. We believe transparency about who makes editorial decisions builds trust with our readers.

How we are funded and what that means for you

Canada Edition is funded through display advertising, affiliate links, commercial partnerships, sponsored content, newsletter sponsorships, and content licensing. Sponsored or commercial material is always clearly labelled, and affiliate links are disclosed. Our commercial relationships never determine editorial conclusions. For full details, please see our Advertising & Affiliate Disclosure and Ownership & Funding pages.

We also use AI-assisted tools to support research, editing, formatting, translation, metadata, headline options, summaries, and transcription. However, all published editorial content is reviewed by a human editor. AI must never fabricate quotes, sources, interviews, bylines, author experience, or expert profiles. Our AI & Automation Policy explains this in full.
