The live radar above shows real-time precipitation across Canada, updated every 10 minutes from Environment and Climate Change Canada’s network of 31 weather radar stations. You can pan, zoom and loop the last few hours to track rain, snow or mixed precipitation moving through your region.
How does the live radar work?
The map pulls data directly from Environment Canada’s C-band and S-band radars, which scan the atmosphere for hydrometeors—raindrops, snowflakes, hail. Colours indicate intensity: light green for drizzle, red for heavy downpours, pink for snow. The 24-hour loop lets you see how a system is evolving, useful for planning travel or outdoor activities. For Atlantic Canada, the radar often captures fast-moving coastal storms; in Ontario, the 24-hour future radar overlay helps anticipate lake-effect snowbands.
What can you see on the radar map?
Beyond current precipitation, you can toggle satellite imagery to see cloud cover and frontal boundaries. The “Canada weather map live satellite” view combines radar with visible and infrared satellite feeds, giving you the full picture. For British Columbia, the BC weather map live satellite layer is especially helpful for tracking Pacific systems rolling onto the coast. The radar also shows gust fronts and, occasionally, rotation signatures that may precede severe weather—though for warnings you should always check the weather warning page.
Why does the radar sometimes show no data or a blank area?
Radar beams can be blocked by mountains or hills, creating “shadow zones.” Also, very light drizzle or virga (rain that evaporates before reaching the ground) may not register. Check the Atlantic Canada satellite layer for a broader view of cloud bands.
Can I see future precipitation on the radar map?
